Health benefits of microgreens in terms of nutritional contents many times more than their mature plants and availability of additional anti oxidant compounds with their vital role in prevention of diseases like cancer , Cardiovascular , Diabetes , Azheimer etc can be found in several scientific studies and publications . Few of them are listed below for ready reference

Its very economical safe and easy to grow inhouse compared to purchase from market .
Average Cost of production of selected microgreens
Average cost of common seeds per gram = $ 0.06 – (A)
Average quantity of seeds per 10 X 20 inch tray = 15 grams – (B)
Total cost of seeds per tray of 10 X 20 inch (A X B) = 15 X 0.06 = $ 0.90
Cost of 10 X 20 Grow Mat = $ 1.00
Average Cost of Production per tray = $ 1.90 – (C)
Average Quantity of Microgreens per Tray (7 to 10 days) = 150 grams
Average Market Price of 150gm = $ 7.90 – (D)
Cost Saving per Tray (D – C) ($7.90 – $1.90) = $ 6.00 – (E)
Model Wise Average No. of Trays Per Month & Cost Saving
SGT 011 – 6 Trays Per Month = 6 X 6 = $ 36.00
SGT 341 – 28 Trays Per Month = 28 X 6 = $ 168.00
SGT 342 – 56 Trays Per Month = 56 X 6 = $ 336.00
Hence the cost of grow station is recovered in few months in terms of savings in cost of production of microgreens compared to purchase from market.Sample Description
There are more than 25 commonly grown species of microgreen vegetables and herbs. The popular ones are Arugula , Broccoli , Kale , Radish, Sunflower , Mustard , Peas , Pak Choy , Basil , Sorrel , Mint , Fenugreek , Fennel , Dill , Amaranth , Alfa alfa , Cabbage , Beets , Cilantro & Dill
Certified untreated , preferably organic seeds with tested germination percentage from a reputed supplier should be used for growing microgreens.
1. Micrgreens are very delicate harvested when 1 inch to 4 inch long after 7-10 days depending on species will be eaten away by insects and pests besides possibility of contamination and toxicity if grown in soil in open field or kitchen garden .
2. Microgreens grow in temperature range of 10- 30 Degrees Celcius i. e the same as we live in . Cannot be grown outside throughout the year due to climatic changes.
3. Inhouse grow stations with specialized grow lights substituting sunlight for photosynthesis , use of organic growing medium like grow mats , clean water irrigation is ideal way to grow assured organic microgreens under your own supervision .
As per research findings by Scientists , microgreens are said to have 4 to 40 times more nutrient contents than their mature crops . For Example Broccoli microgreens said to have 20 times more nutrients than mature Broccoli . This means 150 grams of broccoli microgreens produced in 7-8 days in a 10×20 inch tray are equivalent to 3 Kgs (150×20) of mature broccoli in terms of net nutrient out put .
A combination of 5 to 6 species of microgreens like broccoli, kale , mustard , arugula , sunflower , fenugreek etc is said to contain most of vitamins , minerals thereby substituting the synthetic supplements with natural plant based foods.
The additional antioxidant compounds like Sulforaphane , Polyphenols etc in some of these species are said to have properties of anti Cancerous , anti Diabetic , anti Alzheimer , and anti Cardiovascular diseases .
Normally 4 inch between plants and grow lights . In case of SGT grow stations hang lamp shades at the first slot from bottom for micro greens and shift to upper slots as the plants grow in height to maintain 4 inch gap between plants and source of light.
Many ornamental plans and green leafy salad plants like lettuce , spinach etc can be grown. The lamp shades have slots for height adjustment. Potted plants upto 8 inch height can be grown using all four trays .The trays and lamp shades are removable making them suitable for longer height plants also by using two trays and lamp shades instead of four.
Yes, Wheat grass can be grown on grow mats in the same way as microgreens and its ready to harvest in 7-8 days. It is recommended to soak wheat grass seeds in water for 5-6 hours before sowing.
